The first edition of CMAT will be conducted in 2012. For 2012, there are around 4 lakh seats in the AICTE-approved management programmes in India, which will be covered by the test. The 2012 Exam will be conducted from 20th to 28th Feb 2012 and the Results will be declared on 11 March 2012.
By 2011, there were a number of entrance exams for management programmes in India. These included CAT, JMET, state-specific exams, exams conducted by management associations of MBA institutes and exams conducted by private colleges. AICTE launched CMAT to reduce the burden (physical, mental and financial stress) of students in attending to multiple examinations.
Registration of CMAT opened in December 2011 and will close on 22 January 2012. Some of leading Business Schools have decided to keep out from CMAT, the reason given was "late announcement" by AICTE.
