Q.1 What is minimum educational qualification for advertised position?
Ans. Candidates should have passed qualifying degree examinations and awarded full time bachelor’s degree in engineering/technology in the advertised disciplines (full time regular courses only) from recognized Indian Universities/ Institutes.
Q.2 I have done AMIE, am I eligible to apply for the notified post?
Ans. For advertised position, qualifications prescribed stipulate, full time regular course/s from AICTE approved / UGC recognized University/Deemed University and the courses offered by Autonomous Institutions equivalent to the relevant courses approved / recognized by Association of Indian Universities (AIU)/UGC/AICTE. AMIE qualification does not fulfil requirement and as such, cannot be considered as eligible.
Q.3 What is the total Number of vacancies?
Ans. The total number of vacancies as notified is 250,which may increase or decrease as per company requirements
Q.4 I have completed my B.E. / B.Tech Engineering degree after diploma in engineering. How should I calculate my aggregate marks?
Ans. You should have minimum 60% marks (For SC, ST & PWD - minimum 50%) in aggregate of all semesters, in qualifying graduate (B.E. / B. Tech.) Degree.
Q.5 I have a B.E. / B. Tech degree in a branch which has not been specified in the detailed advertisement. Can I apply my Engineering Discipline?
Ans. No. Candidates having engineering degree in a branch other than specified in the detailed advertisement are not eligible to apply.
Q.6 How will Hindustan Petroleum use GATE score?
Ans. HPCL will use GATE-2013 score for short listing of the candidates, who have applied to HPCL. Further selection process will consist of GD/GT and or personal interview. HPCL will get the GATE-2013 scores directly from GATE authorities. Only those candidates, who have appear in GATE-2013 in the relevant disciplines and have registered themselves with HPCL would be considered for further selection process in HPCL.
Q.7 GATE conducts its examination in so many papers. Will scores from all the papers be considered by HPCL?
Ans. HPCL will consider GATE-2013 score in engineering disciplines which have been advertised. Please see the detail advertisement in HPCL website www.hindustanpetroleum.com .
Q.8 I appeared in GATE last year. Do I need to write GATE in this year again?
Ans. Yes. GATE-2013 score is the only valid score for consideration for recruitment in HPCL. Score from GATE-2012 or prior to that will not be considered by HPCL for its recruitment purpose.
Q.9 Is there any upper age limit for appearing in GATE?
Ans. For GATE upper age limit, kindly refer to GATE official website; However, as per HPCL eligibility norms maximum age is 25 years as on 30th June 2013 for the general category candidates. 10 Is there any minimum % of marks requirement for appearing in GATE?
Ans. For GATE % of marks requirement, kindly refer to GATE official website; However for being eligible for HPCL, candidates (belonging to General and OBC-NC category) should have secured minimum 60% marks in qualifying degree examinations. It is relaxed to 50% for SC/ST/PH candidates. Candidates currently in final year of their engineering studies may also apply. However, if selected, they must be in a position to submit their final mark sheet by 31st August 2013.Further at the time of applying Candidates (belonging to General and OBC-NC category) should have secured minimum 60% aggregate marks up to last semester examinations. This is relaxed to 50% for SC/ST/PH candidates.
Q.11 Is there any physical fitness criteria for appearing in GATE
Ans. For GATE physical fitness criteria, kindly refer to GATE official website; However, desirous candidates seeking employment with Hindustan Petroleum needs to be medically fit as per Hindustan Petroleum’s pre-employment medical standard.
Q.12 If I want to change my GATE examination venue or want to correct a mistake in GATE form or if I face difficulty in downloading my GATE admit card with registration number, whom should I get in touch with?
Ans. You have to get in touch with GATE authorities. HPCL does not have any control on conducting GATE examination. Anything pertaining to GATE-2013 examination needs to be dealt with GATE-2013 authorities only. The procedure is enumerated in GATE-2013 bulletin. HPCL’s interaction with GATE is limited to getting the scores of the candidates appeared in 5 subjects advertised by HPCL.
Q.13 Can I apply to HPCL before I download GATE admit card?
Ans. No. GATE admits card will have your GATE registration Number. You have to apply to HPCL with GATE registration number. Otherwise we shall not be able to retrieve your GATE score.
